Steve and Deb have really enjoyed the new landscape because it is easy to care for and shows off good color which was especially important to Deb.

Steve and Deb Syverson were interested in getting some ideas together to redo a portion of their landscape after their friends, Mike and Patty Richardson, had hired LBD to do some landscape work in their backyard.

The design and installation were done by Charley Dalton at the end of summer 2009 with construction wrapping up early fall. Steve and Deb had some retaining walls that they wanted taken down as well as a few steps/landings that needed to be replaced. Another challenge of the project was deciding on what materials to use. Over the years many types of landscape materials had been experimented with, so attempting to tie everything together was another design objective. The end result was a living wall made of boulders and mulch where the retaining wall was a Weston block sitting wall and columns replacing the existing rotting timbers along the patio.

Another portion of the project featured enlarging the old wooden and clay brick patio at the base of the steps coming off the deck with a new patio made of Urbana pavers surrounded on all sides by a Weston block retaining wall. The old steps/landings leading from the garage door to the patio were also replaced with flagstone steppers. Crushed brick was used in between and around the flagstone since that was already located in the bed before any construction took place. New concrete bullet edgers surrounding all the landscape beds, created by this new design, were added, with a second round of bullet edgers installed in 2010 to wrap around all beds adjacent to the house. Plants were also added in along with all new mulch beds the following spring of 2010, due to the weather turning sour for the year as soon as the hardscaping was complete.

Steve and Deb have really enjoyed the new landscape because it is easy to care for and shows off good color which was especially important to Deb.
